Information

The Bachchor Wiesbaden, conducted by Niklas Sikner, is firmly established in Wiesbaden’s cultural life as a major concert choir. At the same time, it fulfils liturgical duties as the church choir of the Lutherkirche. The choir was founded in September 1978 by Klaus Uwe Ludwig; from 2008 to 2019, it was conducted by Jörg Endebrock.

The Bachchor, which currently comprises 100 singers from Wiesbaden, the Rheingau and the surrounding area, sees its mission not only in performing works by its namesake Johann Sebastian Bach and other well-known oratorios, but also in regularly presenting lesser-known works, particularly from the late Romantic period and the 20th and 21st centuries.

For many decades, the Lutherkirche has been a centre of church music whose influence extends beyond the borders of the state capital, Wiesbaden. Music is proclamation and builds bridges to people, through which the Christian message can be experienced in a very special way.

To do justice to the unique acoustics of the Art Nouveau church, intensive choral work and outstanding artists are required. Since 1997, these have been supported by the Freundeskreis des Bachchors e. V. (Chairman: Thomas Göttert).

The Bachchor’s permanent partner is the Bachorchester Wiesbaden.  It brings together professional musicians, primarily from the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden, as well as specialists in historical performance practice – particularly for early music and Baroque music.

The Chamber Choir is formed from the ranks of the Bach Choir and can be heard both in church services – particularly the regular Evensong services – and in independent concerts, such as J. S. Bach’s Mass in B minor in January 2026.

A particular focus is placed on nurturing young talent: in 2015, the Bach Choir’s work with children and young people gave rise to the Evangelische Singakademie Wiesbaden, in which around 230 children and young people currently sing each week.

The Bach Choir’s vocal coach is the tenor and singing teacher Rouwen Huther, and the accompanist is the pianist Yumi Fujimoto. In 2003, the Bach Choir was awarded the Cultural Prize of the State Capital of Wiesbaden.

Interested singers with choir experience, musical knowledge and vocal training are invited to attend a rehearsal by arrangement and to introduce themselves in a short audition. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 7.45 pm to 10.00 pm in the Bach Hall of the Lutherkirche.
