The Reinhard Ernst Museum (mre) is one of the few museums worldwide dedicated exclusively to abstract art. The building, designed by the Japanese Pritzker Prize-winner Fumihiko Maki, houses high-calibre international works from the Reinhard Ernst Collection, as well as two special exhibitions each year.

The entrepreneur, philanthropist and art lover Reinhard Ernst collects exclusively abstract art. His collection thus has a rare and distinct profile. Many of the artists in the Reinhard Ernst Collection are among the most important of the 20th and 21st centuries; they have played a decisive role in shaping the central movements of abstraction. Reinhard Ernst, for instance, owns the most extensive private collection of works by the American painter Helen Frankenthaler (1928–2011).

Be enchanted by the large-scale works by Tony Cragg, Katharina Grosse, Bettina Pousttchi and Michael A. Müller, which were created especially for the museum.
