Information
The fossil deposit Grube Messel, Germany’s first UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 1995, offers fascinating insights into an ecosystem from 47 million years ago. Guided tours of the pit and the museum bring its history to life.
At GRAB’MAL, a hut right on the edge of the pit, visitors can search for fossils in oil shale under expert guidance.
A bistro, playground equipment, a viewing platform and forest art installations round off the experience.
