The museum comprises a total of six exhibition rooms, two of which are on the ground floor and four on the first floor.
On the ground floor, tools used by our farming ancestors for the straw harvest and grain processing are on display, including a hand-cranked mill. A collection of iron slag clearly indicates that there were smelting works in the vicinity. The workstations of a cobbler and a cigar roller, as well as a spinning wheel, can also be seen here.
In the stairwell, visitors can follow all the stages involved in making farmhouse bread. There are also pictorial representations of life in the abandoned settlements of Gilbertshausen and Melmertshausen, which were inhabited between 800 and 1300 – villages that were situated near Frankenbach.
On the first floor, there is a fascinating farmhouse parlour, a bedroom, a kitchen and a small schoolroom, each furnished with period furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries. These are complemented by numerous everyday objects, such as a coal stove, kitchen utensils and traditional garments.
