Established as the first feature-film festival in Rhineland-Palatinate, FILMZ – Festival of German Cinema has been presenting the latest productions from German and German-language cinema every year since 2001. In 2026, FILMZ will celebrate its 25th anniversary – and over the past quarter of a century has become a firmly established institution within the national cultural landscape.
Whether films explore identity, coming of age, family, queerness, migration, social justice, or any number of other themes – FILMZ sees itself as a place for exchange and connection: not only through its programme, which aims to showcase as many perspectives and voices as possible, but also through its format as a festival for the public. This means that the best films in the competition are chosen not by a jury, but by the festival audience. Outside the cinema auditoriums, too, a community-oriented and inclusive atmosphere is fostered, thereby providing a forum for filmmakers and film enthusiasts alike.
