Burg Klopp, Bingen
55411 Bingen am Rhein
The ascent to the observation platform of the tower at Klopp Castle is one of the highlights of every visit to Bingen. Even the Rhine romanticists 200 years ago, who "invented" modern tourism in the first place, appreciated the unique panoramic view from the tower. The view from there was already praised as "the greatest curiosity of Bingen". In 1816, the poet Ludwig Börne even called it "torture of lust", and a tourist guide from 1865 unreservedly recommends: "Even when time is short, do not miss visiting Klopp." The castle tower was initially only a ruin, however, this became the main attraction of a romantic promenade that led visitors from all over the world from the moat through sophisticated gardens to the Klopphöhe. Guest books have been available in a tower room since 1826. Around 100,000 Klopp visitors who were enthusiastic about the Rhine had registered there until 1915 – including members of the European aristocracy and high-ranking poets, thinkers and artists.
