Information

Weilburg was an important center of iron ore mining. After the mines had been closed, the museum, which had already existed since 1911, was expanded to include the first mining museum in Hesse. Machines, original equipment and pictures document mining in the region: iron ore, shale, phosphorite and marble mining and clay extraction. From the first mention in 906 until today, the arc of Weilburg history spans a chronological tour with exhibits, pictures and explanatory texts. Visitors meet Konrad, the first German king, with the Weilburg will of 918 as well as the Grand Duchy of Nassau or the first president of the Frankfurt National Assembly Heinrich von Gagern.
