Schloss Erbach
Schloss Erbach
64711 Erbach
Erbach Castle in the Odenwald awaits with the famous collections of Count Franz I of Erbach-Erbach. Born with a “great fondness for antiquities”, he decided in his early youth to set up a collection of antiquities in the castle. However, he did not limit his interest to antiquity. At the same time he expanded his ancestors' weapon collection, collecting armour, stained glass and colossal and abnormal antlers.
The collection rooms from the late 18th and early 19th centuries are almost unchanged to this day. In them, like nowhere else, the concept of a collection from the time of the Enlightenment becomes tangible. Their understanding of history is still relevant today.
In addition to the Count's collections, Erbach Castle houses the "German Ivory Museum". Starting with the Count's hand-made ivory works, the museum shows a chronological tour from the beginnings of Erbach ivory art to the present day.
