Information

The Episcopal Cathedral and Diocesan Museum with over 3,000 square meters of exhibition space is the second largest of its kind in Germany. The unique sequence of Early, High and Late Medieval rooms showcases works of art from 500 to 1500 AD. The ground floor is used for special exhibitions. In the basement of the museum are the Early and High Medieval vaulted halls, filled with objects from the Roman history of Mainz, Romanesque and Gothic periods. On the upper floor of the Late Gothic cloister, sixty masterpieces from the Late Middle Ages and the Modern Era are shown on 800 square meters. The museum also includes the Chapel of St. Nicholas with its sacristy showcasing the treasury of the cathedral.
